Family reunited thanks to collaboration of Russian and Armenian Ombudsmen

On March 27, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova received an appeal from Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia Arman Tatoyan with a request to assist in the reunification of the Armenian family, which was in a difficult life situation as a result of quarantine.

According to the appeal, the applicants, as Armenian citizens, were unable to fly to Russia at their permanent residence, thus their two minor children aged 16 and 9 years were left alone in Ufa.

The High Commissioner immediately contacted the Ombudsman of Armenia to clarify the facts, the place of residence of the children, as well as to elaborate a mechanism to return parents to Russia or transport children to Armenia.

At the request of Tatiana Moskalkova, on March 29, Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Bashkortostan Rim Kayumov visited children, checked their condition, and also delivered them needed food.

For more than a week, joint work has been conducted by the Office of the Human Rights Defender, the Embassy and Consulate of Russia in Armenia, the Embassy of Armenia in Russia, the regional Commissioner for Human Rights, and the coordinating headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

Upon receipt of information about the charter flight Moscow-Yerevan on April 6, they immediately started developing a roadmap for transporting children along the route Ufa-Moscow-Yerevan.

Thus, on April 5, accompanied by the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Bashkortostan, children got to the airport and flew from Ufa to Moscow, where they were accommodated in the nearest hotel with the assistance from the Armenian Embassy in Russia.

On April 6, on a Moscow-Yerevan flight, children safely arrived in Yerevan and met with their parents.
